NON-PROFIT BOARD LEADERSHIP CERTIFICATE

OVERVIEW: The Board of Director Training for Nonprofit Organizations is a comprehensive 4-week course designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill their roles effectively on nonprofit boards. Throughout the course, participants will gain an understanding of nonprofit governance principles, explore strategies for establishing an effective board structure and composition, learn about board operations and decision-making processes, and discover methods for engaging board members and fostering leadership development. By the end of the course, participants will be prepared to contribute to the success of nonprofit organizations by serving as knowledgeable, engaged, and effective board members.

• Duration: 1 month (4 weekly 90 minute sessions)

• Payment: 50% initial payment towards tuition is due. The balance is due at the midway point of the course.  

              Our enrollment specialists will coordinate your payment schedule with you. The first payment will be due once you confirm with our enrollment specialist the day and time of your weekly virtual class.

Week 1: Introduction to Nonprofit Governance Duration: 90 minutes

In the first week, we will delve into the foundations of nonprofit governance. You will gain a solid understanding of the unique characteristics of nonprofit organizations and the essential roles and responsibilities of board members. We will explore the legal and ethical obligations that govern nonprofit boards, including their fiduciary duty. By the end of this week, you will be equipped with the fundamental principles of effective nonprofit governance.

Week 2: Board Structure and Composition Duration: 90 minutes

During the second week, we will focus on board structure and composition. You will learn how to establish an effective board structure, considering factors such as size, composition, and diversity. We will discuss strategies for recruiting and selecting board members who align with the organization's mission and possess the necessary skills and expertise. By the end of this week, you will have the tools to build a well-rounded and diverse board of directors.

Week 3: Board Operations and Decision-Making Duration: 90 minutes

In the third week, we will explore the crucial aspects of board operations and decision-making. You will gain insights into conducting efficient and productive board meetings, establishing effective board committees, and developing policies and procedures that guide board activities. We will also delve into the board's role in approving and monitoring the organizational budget. By the end of this week, you will have a solid understanding of the practices that facilitate informed and strategic decision-making.

Week 4: Board Engagement and Leadership Development Duration: 90 minutes

During the final week, we will focus on board engagement and leadership development. You will learn strategies to engage board members in the organization's mission and work effectively, fostering strong relationships between the board and staff. We will discuss approaches to provide ongoing orientation and training for board members and developing leadership within the board. Finally, we will explore methods for evaluating board performance and fostering continuous improvement. By the end of this week, you will be equipped with the tools to create an engaged and effective board of directors.
